On 20 September 2024, I worked with Hong Kong Trade Development Council on e-commerce and global sourcing. The engagement focused on moderating a practical discussion with sourcing experts Meghla Bhardwaj and Alan Scanlan on how sourcing decisions shape e-commerce success.
The session was designed around a simple principle: professional learning creates value when people can connect a framework with the decisions they actually face. Rather than treating the subject as a collection of tips, we examined the audience, the desired outcome and the practical steps that turn knowledge into action.

ToggleWhat the programme explored
Participants considered how clear objectives, relevant examples and an audience-first mindset improve execution. The discussion linked strategy with practical choices: what information matters, how to structure it, how to communicate it clearly and how to evaluate whether it achieved the intended result.
- Start with the audience and the decision they need to make.
- Translate broad goals into observable actions and useful outputs.
- Use examples and stories to make complex ideas memorable.
- Build a repeatable process that teams can apply after the session.
- Measure meaningful progress rather than surface activity alone.
Why customised training matters
The same topic lands differently in every organisation. Industry context, participant experience and the working environment all affect what is useful. Customisation is therefore not cosmetic: it determines whether learners can recognise the relevance of an idea and apply it confidently.
This engagement also reinforced the value of participation. Questions and discussion expose assumptions, surface practical constraints and allow a group to learn from its own experience. That turns a workshop into a shared problem-solving process.
From learning to application
A strong session should leave participants with a clearer way to think and a realistic next step. The aim is not to cover every possible tool, but to provide a durable framework that helps people make better decisions as platforms, expectations and technology continue to change.
This approach continues to guide my corporate training programmes in Hong Kong and across Asia. Organisations can also explore AI and digital marketing training for current applications of AI, storytelling, content and customer insight.
