Mattel Hong Kong Corporate Training: Digital and E-Commerce Essentials

Bernie Wong delivering digital and e-commerce essentials corporate training for Mattel Hong Kong

Digital transformation becomes meaningful when teams can connect strategy with everyday decisions. In September 2021, I completed a 10-hour corporate training programme with the Mattel Hong Kong team: five hours on digital essentials and five hours on e-commerce essentials.

The programme was designed as a practical learning experience for a highly engaged team. Rather than treating 數碼營銷 and e-commerce as separate subjects, we explored how brand, content, customer experience and conversion work together across the modern customer journey.

From digital awareness to commercial action

Strong digital capability is not simply about using more platforms. It starts with shared language, clear priorities and a customer-first view of the business. The sessions connected core digital concepts with the questions teams face when planning campaigns, developing content and evaluating online opportunities.

Key areas included:

  • mapping the customer journey from discovery to consideration and purchase;
  • clarifying brand positioning and value propositions for digital channels;
  • planning useful, relevant content for different customer needs;
  • using social proof and trust signals to reduce purchase hesitation;
  • strengthening e-commerce conversion through clearer experiences and calls to action; and
  • selecting meaningful measurements instead of relying only on surface-level metrics.

Why digital and e-commerce skills belong together

Digital marketing attracts attention, but e-commerce must turn that attention into a confident customer decision. When teams understand both sides, they can spot where an otherwise promising journey breaks down—for example, when advertising and landing-page messages do not match, product information leaves questions unanswered, or the checkout experience creates unnecessary friction.

For established consumer brands, this joined-up view is especially valuable. It helps marketing, sales and supporting functions discuss opportunities using the same customer-focused framework, while keeping brand consistency at the centre of execution.

Learning through participation

A memorable part of this Mattel Hong Kong training was the team’s concentration and willingness to participate. Corporate learning creates the most value when participants test ideas, ask questions and connect frameworks with the realities of their organisation. That active involvement helped turn the programme from a presentation into a working conversation about digital and e-commerce growth.

The experience reinforced a principle that continues to shape my corporate training programmes: useful training should give people a structure for thinking, a practical way to apply it and the confidence to take the next step.

Building practical digital capability in Hong Kong

Since this programme, digital commerce has continued to evolve through changing platform behaviour, customer expectations and the rapid adoption of AI. Yet the foundations remain highly relevant: know the audience, communicate a distinctive value proposition, reduce friction and measure what supports the business objective.

Organisations looking to update these capabilities can also explore my AI and digital marketing training. Programmes can be adapted for leadership teams, marketing professionals, sales teams and cross-functional groups in Hong Kong and across Asia.
