其實MeWe早於2012年就已經推出，只是剛推出時反應可能未算太踴躍，直至較早前美國舉行大選時，Trump Trump特朗普稱被很多社交媒體打壓，包括Facebook，所以鼓吹大家使用沒有「Censorship」的社交媒體，MeWe就是其中之一。加上不少香港人都經歷過被Facebook刪除專頁或群組，令用戶感到不滿，就引發最近的「移民潮」。
